BASKETBALL PEP BAND The 2010 version of the Pep Band features a DRUM HEAVY approach. Usually we have our 3 or 4 bass drums, a set of tenors and a snare drum to augment our drum set to rock the JUNGLE. This year we're pulling out all of the stops. In our first game back, the girls' RETRO game in the Wilkerson Gym, we had over 20 drums in play! The refs threatened to kick us out of the gym because we were so loud. At the successful completion of a free throw, the percussion section plays a Click-Click BOOM and if everyone is together, it is a rather loud sound! (Home court advantage, RIGHT??) The ref didn't like that, I guess. The final score had our girls winning by more than 25 points so it didn't really help our home team! Oh well! We'll just keep doing it until we're told not to!
For students to letter in Pep Band, they must attend at least 75% of the games. That includes the playoffs so I encourage the students to make all of the regularly scheduled games as you never know when those playoff games are going to be scheduled. Students can also win a candy bar if they can correctly guess the difference in the final scores EXACTLY! (It's one way for Mr. Kreeger to take roll AND have fun at the same time! So far nobody has hit ON the number!) Last year, 6 or 7 kids earned the extra calories!
The Pep Band is also called upon to perform at most of the STATE CHAMPION ASSEMBLIES which usually number 2 or 3 depending on the year. |
