BASKETBALL PEP BAND The 2010 version of the Pep Band featured a DRUM HEAVY approach. This year we pulled out all of the stops airing out some drums which hadn't seen the light of day for many a year. In our first game back, the girls' RETRO game in the Wilkerson Gym, we had over 20 drums in play! The refs threatened to kick us out of the gym because we were so loud. At the successful completion of a free throw, the percussion section plays a Click-Click BOOM and if everyone is together, it is a rather loud sound! (Home court advantage, RIGHT??) The ref didn't like that, I guess. The final score had our girls winning by more than 25 points so it didn't really help our home team! Oh well! We'll just keep doing it until we're told not to!
The pep band was at all of the home games once we returned from Disneyland in January. We were INSTRUMENTAL (how else could we be) in helping the boys and girls play well at home and away once we entered the playoffs. We were only threatened with a penalty a few times as, according to the rule book, the band is only allowed to play before & after the game, during the 1st and 3rd quarter breaks and at halftime. When we do our CLICK-CLICK-BOOM during the game, some referees count that as PLAYING and disallow it. There are only a few that take us out of the game in that way.
When at the CU Events Center, we played our hearts out (as did the Lady Eagles, the 4 peat State Champs) making sure that the BATTLE OF THE BANDS was won by the boys and girls in EAGLE BLUE!
POINT OF CLARIFICATION TO LETTER: For students to letter in Pep Band, they must attend at least 75% of the games. That includes the playoffs so I encourage the students to make all of the regularly scheduled games as you never know when those playoff games are going to be scheduled. Students can also win a candy bar if they can correctly guess the difference in the final scores EXACTLY! (It's one way for Mr. Kreeger to take roll AND have fun at the same time! So far nobody has hit ON the number!) Last year, 6 or 7 kids earned the extra calories!
The Pep Band is also called upon to perform at most of the STATE CHAMPION ASSEMBLIES which usually number 2 or 3 depending on the year.
