BHS Eagles welcomed at Carnation Plaza The BHS Concert Band entertained a modest International crowd this afternoon at the Carnation Plaza here in Disneyland just outside the Castle. The audience was treated to the Sax Section's rendition of the Beach Boy's classic "Fun, Fun, Fun". The band, led by Senior Clarinet Section leader Elizabeth Hardy, warmed up on "St. Louis Blues" then moved on to "Disney Favorites" which highlights the Mickey Mouse March, Chim-Chim Cheree from Mary Poppins and Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah from "Song of the South". We then performed Leonard Bernstein's "Wrong Note Rag" and closed with "Mark of Triumph". The crowd was generous with their applause at the close as they bid the band adieu and we headed backstage to prepare for our next performance of the afternoon. Elizabeth got us started by conducting "St. Louis Blues".
BHS Eagle Marching Band leads the final Disneyland Main Street Christmas Parade of this Holiday season
After a quick transition from Tuxes and Concert Dresses to Marching Band uniforms, the Eagle Marchers took to the streets in Disneyland. Mr. Kreeger knew that the parade would be a highlight of the trip but wasn't aware how COOOOOOL that it would be. The 2006 bands that traveled to Disney World did NOT do the parade so this was something new for the program. The group started out a little shaky as we left the "Small World" staging area with several "new" marchers but by the time we hit curved around the Matterhorn and FOR SURE by the time we hit Main Street, the group was sounding strong and looking good. The announcer let the swelling crowds know who we were about every 100 yards which was a thrill. The crowds were happy to have a live band in the parade. At the start of the Parade. The Eagle Marching Band marches to "The Mickey Mouse March" to open the final Christmastime Parade.
Chaperones, Drivers and parents helpers make it happen daily!
Upon our return please make sure that your student has amply thanked all of the adults that helped make this trip happen. Jenifer Wolinski dealt with a TON of the pre-trip details as well as setting up a FABUlOUS crossword puzzle on Disney information and history that kept the kids (and chaperones) entertained on the flight. Congrats to Elizabeth Hardy, Margaret Vogt and Marietta Reese for being the first 3 to solve all of the questions! It took a little doing (and many phone calls to the Disney office) to solve them all!
Robin Duclos also fielded many phone calls taking care of a myriad of details. She is also one of the chaperones for the girls on the trip. Brian Ernster and Jeff Puerner helped chaperone the guys as well. Jim Lyon (and wife, Lynn once he got to Vegas) helped guide the trailer with all of the instruments and uniforms to Anaheim. I'll try and find time to update this site nightly but NO PROMISES as we're running pretty tight schedules both of the first two days! I think that the kids are having a blast making life-long memories! It'll be sad to exit Disneyland tomorrow for the last time this trip! We'll be off to our Hollywood adventure on Tuesday!
